Anti-War Protests and Iraq
"Anyone who believes in the "Blood for Oil" argument needs to buy a calculator"

One thing that people need to think about is who is protesting. If you look closely at the footage you can see signs in the protests that say something to the effect of "been protesting war for 30 years." These protestors are the same people that used to spit on soldiers returning home and throw bags of dog feces. They used to call these heroes that had just went through Hell things like "Baby killer."

Having said that, I believe in the Constitutional right to protest anything the government does, even when, like then and now, the majority supports it. Also I am glad that there is a dissenting voice because it is what makes this country strong. I just wish that the argument by the dissenters could be made intelligently.

On the protest on January 19, 2003, a group of protestors stood below a fire escape where a police officer was up there doing his duty. I have not been able to find out what he was doing up there. The protestors below were cheering for him to fall. A police officer protecting us. Again I point out that these are the people who are against attacking Iraq.

The issues of attacking Iraq may be long over by the time you read this but we are at war and at that time there will be some other country on the block. We are at war and are fighting all countries who sponsor terrorism. There is evidence at this time that there are at least one Al Quaeda base in Iraq at this time and if you read this after the war you will know that there were more. Along with untold chemical, biological, and/or nuclear weapons. Also we will find out the fate of Michael Speicher, who three foreign intelligence agencies have told us is being held as a P.O.W. after all these years from the first Gulf War and was never returned per the surrender agreement.

Oil is very important to our society. Yes, some day, we will have to go to another power source blah blah blah but right now we can not survive without it. If there was an credence to the "Blood for Oil" argument then it could be easily countered with that. Anyone who believes the "Blood for Oil" Argument needs to buy a calculator. It will cost the U.S. alone more money every week for the invasion and occupation of Iraq or any other oil producing country then all the possible profits of controlling the oil supply. The people who are using oil profits as a motivator for their foreign policy are countries like France, Germany, and Russia. They have huge multi-billion dollar oil deals with Saddam Hussein and are willing to sacrifice all of our lives to protect it.

The first question you would ask at this point is why so many in America are willing to go to so much trouble just to protect the oil profits of other countries. The answer is that they wouldn't. The people against invading Iraq are trying to bring their party back into power. People believe that Conservatives are better able to take care of the challenges that face our country at this time and so they are in power. The liberals are willing to sacrifice all of our lives just to get back into the predominant seat of government.

The two sides seem similar but really are not. The countries opposing our war policies have greed beyond the cares of human suffering as their motivation. The liberals and peace mongers really think they are doing a good thing but either do not have the capacity to understand what is going on in the world or they do not have the motivation to find out. As I mentioned before, this is not a conspiracy, it is just an unfortunate confluence.
